Governor hosts German Ambassador, seeks support for talent development

Governor Jeremiah Lomorukai hosted Germany Ambassador to Kenya, Sebastian Groth, during a courtesy visit to the County headquarters in Lodwar.

In his remarks at the meeting, Governor Lomorukai announced plans by the County Government to allocate funds in the next financial year to construct a multipurpose modern stadium, as part of its initiative to foster sporting activities and nurture talent in Turkana.

He sought support towards establishment of stadiums and proposed a sports exchange program in Germany for the youth of Turkana, since the exchange was deemed to enhance cultural interaction and skill development.

He acknowledged the positive impact of digital skills training at the Learning Lions Campus in Loropio. Governor Lomorukai briefed Ambassador Groth on the County Government’s development agenda, which focuses on transforming residents’ fortunes through a public-private partnership model.

The County boss emphasized the administration’s focus on water scarcity and self-reliance in Turkana, while Governor Lomorukai emphasized the Shirika Plan’s potential for integrating refugees into government programs.

He encouraged the delegation to visit archaeological sites such as Nariokotome and Namorutunga to get in touch with the history of mankind’s origins.

Ambassador Groth expressed his gratitude to Turkana for hosting refugees and disclosed ongoing efforts to integrate them into host countries and leverage their potential as assets. The speaker highlighted the partnership between the County Government and various programs in agriculture, water, sports, and refugee integration.

Senior County Government present included Deputy County Secretaries Dr. Albert Gamoe (Administration and Cabinet Affairs) and Joseph Nyang’a as well as County Executive for Education and Sports Leah Audan.

The attendees included County Director for Sports James Nateleng, Deputy Director Jackson Nakusa, Learning Lions Co-Founder and Local Director Brizan Were, and TUCUSA President Ali Ekai.
