Administrators Warned Against Soliciting Bribes for Census jobs

Makueni Deputy County Commissioner (DCC) Florence Obunga has warned chiefs and assistant chiefs against soliciting bribes from members of the public during the recruitment exercise for the 2019 Kenya Population and Housing census jobs.

Obunga said the recruitment for the positions was free and the local administrators should not take advantage of the exercise to source for money from prospective applicants in the pretext of securing them a chance.

Speaking at the County Commissioner’s boardroom on Tuesday when she launched the sub county census committee, the DCC said chiefs and their assistants will only be required to receive applications for the content supervisors and enumerators.

“The works of the local administrators is to receive the application on behalf of Kenya National Bureau of Statistics (KNBS) at the locational and sub locational level. They are not involved in any way in the recruitment process,’’she said.

Obunga called on stakeholders to support the census exercise terming it as a key government exercise.

“We are calling for collaboration from all key stakeholders to ensure that the census goes on as planned,’’added the DCC

On Tuesday KNBS advertised recruitment of personnel for the forthcoming census.

The statistics body seeks to recruit 2, 700 ICT supervisors, 27,000 content supervisors and 135, 000 enumerators country wide.

Earlier this year, KNBS warned the public against fake job advertisements for the census that were circulating on social media.

Fraudsters used the fake advert to con unsuspecting Kenyans money.
