Eldoret Children’s Rescue Centre receives Christmas goodies

The Permanent Presidential Music Commission (PPMC) donated food and nonfood items and entertained vulnerable children at Eldoret Rescue Centre on Thursday.

Speaking at the ceremony, County Executive Member for Education, Vocational Training, Social Protection and Gender, Anthony Sitienei, acknowledged the group for donating assorted foodstuff to the institution which has a population of 200 vulnerable children.

“These donations will go a long way towards ensuring children at the facility have access to daily basic needs,” he noted.

“The centre is run by the county government of Uasin Gishu and we have taken the initiative of keeping the children here and providing them with all the services required,” said Steiner.

“We extend further appeal for well-wishers to donate goodies like food, clothing and beddings from well-wishers so that we can sustain the support we offer to the children, “he said.

He said the local community has agreed to donate 10 acres of land for the facility towards its expansion plans in addition to the 19 acres the rescue centre sits on owing to the rising number of street children that are brought to the facility for rehabilitation.

The presidential event coordinator, Thomas Wasonga led the choir in entertaining the children with gospel and Christmas songs noting that it is his hope for each of the children to feel like human beings and celebrate their Christmas festival like any other child.

The Rescue Centre Acting Manager David Magut, further noted that street children at the institution access education, healthcare and skills development that will enable them to be self-reliant.

“Some of the children, who were rescued from the streets of Eldoret town by the Uasin Gishu county enforcement team, suffer from mental related complications, different forms of disabilities and some are orphans,” he said.

“The facility used to host more than 2,000 children but we have since reunited them with their parents, relatives and guardians from various parts of the country after rehabilitating them,” said Magut.

“I appreciate all well-wishers for extending a helping hand through their donations to enable the children to enjoy their Christmas festival,” he added.
