Government Drivers and Operators Urged To Renew Their Licences on Time

Uasin Gishu County Government has urged all drivers and heavy machinery operators to renew their licenses before January 2024 to avoid being denied access to county vehicles, machinery, and other accessories.

While addressing the County Drivers, Mechanics and Operators on Monday during a meeting held at the County Yard, Roads, Transport and Public Works Chief Officer Engineer Abraham Kiptalam said the Transport section will only clear and give work tickets to those who will have put their documents of operation in order.

“I would like you to use the period we are going to break for Christmas to go cyber and ensure you renew your licenses before January,” he advised.

He thanked the team for playing a crucial role in service delivery to the people of Uasin Gishu and their dedication to ensure safety of lives by complying to traffic rules.

However, Engineer Kiptalam asked the drivers not to personalise the county vehicles and ensure all county vehicles are parked at the yard by 5 p.m. unless one has an authorisation letter to operate beyond the stipulated working hours.

“All County vehicles fall under the transport section and can be designated to any department. Avoid personalising the vehicles according to your departments because we all work together for the success of our County Government,” noted Eng. Kiptalam.

The Chief Officer cautioned the drivers against misuse of fuel saying measures have been put in place to monitor proper utilisation of fuel through the county portal that accesses all information on fuel cards issued to the drivers.

He revealed that the team will also be beneficiaries of the ongoing discussions by Governor Jonathan Bii and the County Public Service Board to promote county staff who have stagnated without promotions for many years.

Roads Director Eng Julius Ronoh and Chief Transport Officer Stanley Kosgey asked the drivers and operators to inculcate a culture of reporting mechanical challenges of machinery and vehicles on time so that they are repaired within the shortest time possible.

The meeting was also attended by the department’s Human Resources Officer Stella Birech and Engineers from the Roads section.
