Embu County Commissioner Abdullahi Galgallo Hiddi has urged the Embu County government to consider reducing the area’s bar operating hours so that they conform with the Alcoholic Drinks Control Act, popularly known as the Mututho Laws.
Hiddi said the county government should not be seen as contributing to the widespread drunkenness in the county, by licensing bar owners to operate for longer hours than elsewhere in the country.
Bars in Embu operate between 2.00 pm and 11 pm on weekdays and between 11.00 am and 11.00 pm on weekends. The Act that is followed in the rest of the country dictates that bars operate between 5.00 pm and 11.00 pm on weekdays and 2.00 pm to 11.00 on weekends.
Mr. Hiddi who was speaking at Siakago stadium in Mbeere North during this year’s Madaraka day rally said the security situation had improved and urged residents to continue providing information to security officers.
He also urged parents to talk to their children who are found without known means of livelihood so that they do not get deep into the world of crime.
Embu Deputy Governor David Kariuki Njeru said the county will be employing 284 Early Childhood Development Teachers and assured that the employment process will be transparent.
He added that beginning tomorrow contractors will be on site to connect 12 market centers with water.
Mbeere North MP Muriuki Njagagua said he will not allow people intent on subdividing Siakago stadium to grab it.
