The sentencing of Kisumu Governor Prof. Anyang Nyong’o and his sister Dr. Risper Nyagoy for contempt of court has been moved to Thursday after they failed to appear in court.
The two are facing a six-month imprisonment after the high court last week found them guilty of contempt of court.
High Court Judge Thrispisa Cherere found them guilty after failing to include their nephews who had taken them to court as beneficiaries in their father’s multi-million estate.
In a ruling delivered by Justice Cherere on October 11 last year, letters that placed Nyong’o and her sister as sole administrators of the estate were revoked and they were directed to list one of the nephews Kenneth Okuse as a co-administrator.
The nephews were forced to make a fresh application seeking a six month jail term for the duo for contempt of court.
Lawyers Jefferson Museve and Rodgers Mugominya who appeared on behalf of Nyong’o and Nyagoy said the two were out of the country.
Justice Cherere postponed the matter to May 30, 2019 after an assurance that the accused shall appear.
The Sh200 million properties in contention include 100 acres of land in Miwani as well as flats along Jogoo Road in Nairobi.
Others are parcels of land in Manyatta, Tamu, Milimani estate and East Rata in Seme sub-county, Kisumu.
Hesbon Shimei Nyong’o died on November 10, 2006 but did not leave a will leading to the row amongst family members.
