Commissioner Assures of Stable Security in Baringo

Baringo County Commissioner (CC) Stephen Kutwa has given assurance that the security situation in Baringo County is stable and under control.

Mr Kutwa gave the assurance to the residents that all measures were in place and that there were no lapses or known incidents that have occurred in the recent past.

“We have put measures in place to ensure that our students sitting their exams in what are considered as volatile areas do so without any interference or fear, security apparatus are moving to those areas to ensure adequate and round the clock security,” said Mr Kutwa.

While responding to a recent incident that occurred in Baringo South, Kutwa told KNA that there was no credible source to confirm any close confrontation as there were no casualties nor even spotting of the suspected assailants who engaged in a shootout that lasted for hours.

“There has been no banditry incident in a couple of months now in the county that has led to loss of livestock, most of the conflict occurs in the grazing fields where two communities share or where one community has encroached,” explained the CC.

He said that the recent incident where a reservist guarding a road construction site was as a result of misunderstanding or competition between those seeking to offer services to the construction company from the nearby communities.

Mr Kutwa added the security agencies are not leaving anything to chance and that there’s a collaborative effort and meetings in possible areas that are deemed insecure mostly in Baringo South.

On the shootout incident he reiterated that the shootout was at a distance and that the security officers kept guard in the nearby Kapindasum Primary school in Arabal and responded to the gunfire to keep track of the attackers who were never spotted.

During the Mashujaa celebration in Marigat area Baringo South Member of Parliament Charles Kamuren called out on the National Government Administration officers majorly the County commissioner and the Baringo South Sub-County Deputy Commissioner for laxity on the ongoing security operation.

The recent attacks come merely four days after the seemingly angry MP lectured the administration officers during the celebrations.
