All arms of government have been put on standby to ensure the successful running of the national examinations, Eastern Regional Director of Education Frederick Kiiru has said.
Kiiru said some 135 containers for storing the exam papers and students’ scrips have been strategically placed all around the region to ensure the exams reach students on time.
Some 155874 student are sitting for the KCSE exam that started this week in 2170 secondary schools in the region.
Another 212799 pupils will sit for KCPE in 5379 centers, the last one before the 8-4-4 education system is phased out at the primary school level.
Another 170656 pupils will be sitting for the Kenya Primary School Education Assessment under the new Competency Based Curriculum (CBC).
Kiiru said enough attention had been given to the current weather when planning for the exams and that few hitches were expected.
