Makueni County government has acquired a 20-acre piece of land near Kwa Kathoka to establish a waste management site in order to relocate the Ndue Nguu, Wote dumpsite.
County Executive Member for Lands, Urban Planning and Development, Environment, and Climate Change, Dr. Sonia Nzilani, has said the government has set aside Sh. 10 million for fencing the area.
“The county government has secured 20 acres of land near Kwa Kathoka and set aside 10 million to fence the new waste management site,” said Dr. Nzilani on Thursday at the Ndue Nguu, Wote dumpsite, during a cleaning exercise.
“We have cleaned three major towns in Makueni, including Kathonzweni, Emali, and Wote municipalities, in partnership with various organisations and stakeholders,” added Dr. Nzilani.
She said they have collected garbage in the towns while sensitising people to the importance of a clean and safe environment.
She added that they have planted trees on the new site in order to conserve the environment.
Dr. Nzilani also said the county is also prepared for El Nino rains that are expected in October.
“The county is prepared for the El Nino rains; we have strategies and we have sensitised residents as we anticipate the rains,” she added.
She urged the residents to prepare for planting and also to avoid landslides and flooding-prone areas.
