Medical Services in Kisii are paralyzed after Doctors downed their tools over alleged failure by the County government to implement collective bargaining agreement (CBA).
The medics vowed to continue with the boycott until their grievances were addressed.
The Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Union (KMPDU) Kisii Branch Chairman, Dr. Kevin Osuri said the status quo would remain unless the June 2017 CBA was fully implemented.
Addressing the media in Kisii town on Wednesday, Osuri claimed the doctors had arrived at the painful move after exhausting all available channels to resolve the impasse.
They cited intimidation and harassment by the employer when they demand for promotions which had been pending for five years and release of over 50 qualified doctors for postgraduate studies.
They had also not been covered under the NHIF prompting them to question the rationale behind providing health services, which they as doctors could not afford.
The County Executive for Health, Sarah Omache declined to comment on the issue while the County Director of Health Services, Dr. Geoffrey Otomu promised to speak on the issue at a later date.
