Kenya Defense Forces (Ulinzi) women outshined other teams in the governors National Netball tournament held in Homa Bay town over the weekend.
Ulinzi trounced Kenya Prisons women by scoring 32 against 24 goals and emerged the winner in the super division organized by Kenya Netball Federation at Homa Bay stadium.
The second position was taken by Kenya Prisons while the third position went to St John’s women Netball team respectively.
In Secondary Schools’ category, Kobala earned a set of uniforms and two balls after trouncing Moi Girls Sindo by scoring 38 against 21 goals. Moi girls Sindo was also awarded two balls and a set of uniform for emerging second position.
In the Men category, Sophia men scooped the coveted trophy after beating university of Eldoret men 28 against 18 goals..
In first division category, Sophia women of Homa Bay County were declared champions after beating university of Eldoret women 27 against 13 in the finals. Kisumu Stars and Winters from Kisumu respectively were third and fourth respectively.
While speaking during the closure of the three day tournament, the Secretary of Kenya Netball Federation, Millicent Busolo applauded the county government of Homa Bay for supporting netball by donating trophies, balls and sets of uniform for to the participants.
Busolo who was accompanied by the president of the Federation, Immaculate Kabudha further said that the organization of the event was not badly off since it was their first time in the year to host such event.
Kabudha was grateful to the residents for turning out in large numbers to support the teams.
