Reprieve For Embu Patients As County Receive Drugs

The County Government of Embu has received a consignment of drugs worth Sh. 42 million from Mission for Essential Drugs and Supplies (MEDS).

The development comes as a relief to patients who have been complaining of lack of drugs in the majority of health facilities across the county.

Manyatta and Runjenjes Sub-counties received drugs worth Sh. 12 million each, Mbeere North Sh. 8 million, Mbeere South Sh. 5 million and Mwea Sh. 3 million.

Medical Services Chief Officer Jane Karimi said the distribution was informed by the number of facilities in each area and the population.

Speaking while receiving the drugs at Embu Level Five Hospital, Karimi said the drugs will be distributed immediately to all the health facilities to address the shortage thus alleviating patients suffering.

She additionally said they had also put in place elaborate plans to curb theft either on transit or at the facility level.

She said they had formulated a County Health Management Team to lead the distribution while committees of acceptance and inspection had been put up at the facilities level to receive the drugs.

Ms. Karimi also said they had roped in resident MCAs as well as Ward Administrators to ensure there was no loophole for drug loss in the distribution chain.

She said they were also committed to ensuring there was timely and sufficient supply of drugs to all facilities in delivery of quality healthcare to all residents.

Laboratory Services Coordinator Feliz Fundi reported that Embu Level Five Hospital as well as all Level Four Hospitals and Health Centers will receive the required diagnostic equipment in the coming week to enable them function optimally.
