The Department of Public Health in Makueni sub-county will conduct a major crackdown next week against food vendors and hawkers who are conducting their business illegally in Wote town.
Speaking to Kenya News Agency in her Office on Friday in Wote, the Officer Incharge of Public Health, Salome Kamau said that some vendors were doing business along road sides without licenses saying they were conducting business in unhygienic environment.
While saying many of them have refused to adhere to health standards, Ms.Kamau said they wanted to carry out the crackdown to avoid outbreak of diseases like cholera that would endanger the lives of the residents.
“We intend to revoke permits for those who fail to maintain the required hygiene standards. Those found to be operating illegally, will be arrested and prosecuted,” said MsKamau.
