A security guard died on the spot in a road accident after a bicycle he was riding was hit by a lorry at Kasimba junction along Kisii-Oyugis road on Wednesday.
The deceased identified as Ouma Ounda was a security guard contracted to a Chinese company constructing the Ahero-Isbania road.
He met his death while trying to cross the road headed for his home in Kodera village of Kasimba sub-location.
The deceased was hit by a lorry ferrying sand from Kisii town towards Kendu Bay town.
Confirming the incident, the Senior Assistant Chief of Kasimba sub-location, Pius Odoyo said the lorry which was speeding hit the bicycle killing Ounda instantly.
Odoyo added that after knocking the security guard, the lorry lost control and hit a saloon car which was from Oyugis town heading towards Kodera causing minor injuries to the driver of the car.
He said that the driver of the lorry was arrested after the accident and was being detained at Oyugis police station.
The assistant Chief added that the two vehicles were towed to the same station awaiting further investigations.
He appealed to road users to be careful while on the road and cautioned them to avoid over speeding.
The body of the deceased was later taken to Rachuonyo Sub-County hospital mortuary.
