Makueni set to construct fire stations

Makueni  County  government  will  spend  sh.7.5 million to construct a fire  station  in Wote town  in  2018/2019 financial year.

Speaking  to  Kenya News Agency (KNA) in his Wote office on Thursday, Makueni Disaster Management Director, Willy  Malile said  the  fire station was under construction and is due to be completed by June 2019.

Malile  noted  that  with  a well-equipped station, the county government will manage many incidents of fire that occur  resulting to destruction of property running to millions of shillings.

However, he revealed that in the 2019/2020 budget some money had been set aside to construct fire stations at Kambu and Salama in Kibwezi and Mukaa Sub-counties respectively.

“With more fire stations constructed along the busy Mombasa-Nairobi highway, this will go a long in way saving lives and property whenever there are incidents of fire,’’ said Malile.

At  the same time, the Director said money has also been set aside to purchase fire engines however, he did not reveal the amount involved.

“Establishment of fire stations is a standard practice in Kenya and Makueni residents stand to benefit from them,’’ said Malile.
