Gov’t disburses Sh68 million for Inua Jamii programme in Machakos

The government has started paying out Sh68 million to 34,000 beneficiaries of the Inua Jamii programme in Machakos county.

County Coordinator of Children Services Rhoda Mwikya said each beneficiary will receive Sh2, 000 for the month of July.

She said the beneficiaries include 27,394 older persons 5,719 orphaned and vulnerable children (OVC) and 924 people with severe disabilities.

“The payments started on July 28 at the respective banks of the beneficiaries. The money is available up to six months,” Mwikya said.

Mwikya said the disbursement of the funds comes barely a week after the government paid the same beneficiaries Sh272 million in arrears for the months of March, April, May and June.

Each beneficiary received a total of Sh8,000 in arrears.

Speaking to KNA in her office Wednesday, the county coordinator said the stipend of Sh2, 000 will now be paid on a monthly basis.

“The beneficiaries will be receiving the money every month,” noted Mwikya.

She called on the beneficiaries to spend the money wisely and cautioned against misuse.

“The money should be spent well. Caregivers especially for OVCs should use the cash to pay school fees and buy necessities required by the children,” noted the county coordinator.
