95th Edition of Regional Music Festival kick-off

The 95th Edition of Rift Valley Regional Music Festivals has just kicked off at Maasai Mara University in Narok County, where learners from both primary and secondary schools within the region have gathered to showcase their talents.

While reading his speech during the official opening of the competition on Friday, the Regional Music Festivals Patron, who is also the Rift Valley Regional Director of Education, Milton Nzioka said music soothes lives, creates harmony, and communicates critical messages in society over and above being a source of entertainment.

The director also said the music industry has now become a source of livelihood for many people in the country, thus there are a number of career opportunities in the Music industry such as in production, editing, directing, and actual performance among others.

Nzioka mentioned the importance of a Competency-Based Curriculum in schools as it has distinct pathways for learners with talents, such as arts and sports, Social Sciences and Science, Technology Engineering, and Mathematics.

He encouraged the learners to observe discipline as it is a critical component of any form of success in life, therefore, the learners were expected to exhibit a high level of discipline during music festivals, within the venue and where they are being hosted.

“Let us shun all negative vices which could dent the image of our region. Learners should show high discipline during this week of the event,” said the director.

The visiting participants were also encouraged to enjoy the warm reception of the people and visit tourist sites available within the county, especially during this time of wildebeest crossover in the Maasai Mara game reserve.

The music festivals will run for one week under the theme of nurturing talent for innovation and national development, with over 15,000 participants attending from the region.
