Digital revolution programme for school leavers unveiled

The Nakuru National Library Service has introduced digital revolutionary programmes for school leavers to enable them to access international jobs on the internet, including the Ajira, which is sponsored by the Ministry of Information, Communication, and Digital Economy.

The Librarian in charge Mrs. Purity Mutuku said what makes their programme unique was the numerous number of volunteers who are more than willing to train the students for free.

He commended the volunteers and said the county has a rich history of volunteering achieved mainly from the schools they have attended such as Menengai, Nakuru High, and Starehe Boys Center.

In an interviewed by KNA today, she said a majority of the students in Nakuru city who are waiting to join university have a personal affiliation with the library since that has always been their study center, and when they complete high school they offer free services.

Apart from high school students, she said there are groups of Information Technology (IT) graduates who mainly use the library as their office for their international jobs because of high-speed free Wi-Fi, and they are more than willing to assist others.

Additionally, she said during weekends the standard eight and form four candidates get free tutorials on mathematics and other science subjects.

She appealed to parents to allow their unemployed children to attend the free digital training since the library’s aim was to make the world of information fun for all who spend their time at the facility.

Mrs. Mutuku said unlike in the past when libraries were just for reading books, the current resources and services they provide encourage digital revolution in communities that go the extra mile to create borderless jobs.

Furthermore, she said the young children are also encouraged to play games such as Legos, monopoly, and chess so that they could associate libraries with a place that creates enjoyment and happiness.
