Sh150 million eye clinic commissioned in Cherangani

Former Cherangani Member of Parliament, Wesley Kipchumba Korir, has commissioned the construction of a Sh 150 million eye hospital at the Sibanga market in the constituency.

Speaking during the ground breaking ceremony, Korir who is the Transcend Sports Academy President and the former Boston Marathon gold medalist said this will be a relief for residents in Trans-Nzoia, noting that there was an increase of eye problems cases in the country

The facility will also reduce the cost of transport for those seeking the service at Kitale County Hospital which is quite far for some eye patients,” he noted.

In company of visitors from USA and doctors from Kisii Eye Centre, Korir said with the help from the donors, the hospital is going to be one of its kind with four operation rooms equipped with modern eye testing and operation equipment that will enhance eye care services at the Kitale eye satellite clinic at the Kitale County Hospital.

“A report released sometimes back shows that poor performance by students in schools is sometime contributed by poor eyesight while in class and this is going to help screen the school going children to help avert the problem, “he said.

This is one of the biggest projects in the region that will serve beyond Tran-Nzoia County including the counties of West Pokot, Elgeyo Marakwet, Turkana and parts of Uasin-Gishu.

Korir added that apart from the improvement of the eye health care in the county, residents of Cherangani constituency will be advantaged as they will benefit more through the creation of job opportunities during the construction.

“The hospital will create employment opportunities among many other opportunities that come with the hospital,” submitted Korir.

The visitors who work in one of major companies in the USA also assured their commitment of ensuring the eye clinic will be fully furnished and equipped.

Korir said the construction of the hospital have a time frame of one and a half years and is expected to be complete and its doors open for operationalization by the end of 2023.
