A 70 year old woman has been arrested for allegedly poisoning her eight grandchildren at Boroni village, Mutunwa location.
The Kisii Central Officer Commanding Police Station (OCPD), Eliud Kimwele said the granny was apprehended after her 4-year- old grandchild died on Monday, while other siblings were hospitalized after feeding on githeri that she had served them on Sunday evening.
“The child died yesterday morning while the seven siblings are recuperating in different hospitals in Kisii County after they were allegedly served with poisoned food by their grandmother,” he stressed.
The Matunwa Location Chief, Richard Omai said the victims suffered stomach aches throughout the night with the youngest succumbing to poison yesterday morning.
Omai said some of the victims who went to school were overwhelmed by pain and were rushed to local hospitals.
Eye witnesses were silent about the victim’s mother whereabouts but claimed the father lived far away with a second wife.
Omai urged the residents to be calm and warned them against taking the law into their hands. The body of the deceased was removed to Kisii Teaching and Referral hospital mortuary.
