60-year old woman murdered in cold blood in Malindi

A 60-year old woman was Thursday night brutally murdered at Gahaleni Village of Malindi Sub County.
Malindi Sub County Police Commander Philip Wambugu said the sexagenarian, Dama Charo, was ambushed by unknown assailants who hacked her with machetes and dumped her body a few meters from her home.
Wambugu said police officers had camped at the deceased person’s home to gather evidence from villagers as reports indicated that she could have been killed on suspicion of practicing witchcraft.
The police boss condemned the incident saying nobody had the right to take another person’s life. He said police would do everything to apprehend the culprits and bring them to book.
A neighbour, Mr. Sulubu Maitha, said the granny did not have any dispute with anybody in the village and wondered why she was murdered.
Police took the body to Star Hospital in Malindi Town where a post mortem examination is expected to be carried out.
On Tuesday, a 65-year old man, Gilbert Nyoka, was killed in similar fashion in Magarini Sub County.
Kilifi County has become notorious for murder in which the victims are suspected to be witchdoctors.
Family land differences have also been cited as some of the reasons old men are brutally killed by assailants hired by disgruntled close relatives, who then justify the murder as that of a witchdoctor.
A group of suspected witch doctors who have been domiciled at the offices of the Malindi District Cultural Association was left homeless recently when a tycoon ordered MADCA to vacate the piece of land that housed their offices.
