Man arrested after torching neighbour’s cow in Nyamira

Police in Nyamira North Sub County, Nyamira County have arrested a 24-year man suspected to have set ablaze a neighbour’s cowshed causing the death of a cow kept therein.

Dominic Mosigisi, from Nyamibiri location, Nyameko village is alleged to have committed the crime in the wee hours of Monday morning at around 0400Am.

While confirming the incident to the press, Nyamira County Commissioner, Amos Mariba said the suspect decided to surrender to police for fear of citizen’s wrath if they caught him.

“Mosigisi was denied milk on Sunday evening by his neighbour Peter Nyarangi, the cow owner, something they suspect angered Mosigisi to plan for the dreadful act to the animal,” Mariba said.

He further revealed that Nyarangi lost over Sh 100,000 in the incident as the cow had an estimated value of Sh 50,000 and the cowshed at Sh 60,000 luckily nobody was injured.

“The culprit will be arraigned in Nyamira Law Court today for destruction of property, arson and causing death of an animal,” confirmed Mariba.

He condemned the act terming it an injustice to animals.
