40 PWSDs to be reinstated for stipend

A total of 40 Persons with Severe Disabilities (PWSDs) who were left out from the Consolidated Cash Transfer Programme Management System will be reinstated in Laikipia.

County Coordinator Social Services, Zephania Maina speaking to KNA at his Nanyuki office on Wednesday said that those who will be re-targeted are those who were previously benefitting from the cash transfer programme.

“This process of locating and registering eligible households kicked off yesterday and will happen for a period of three weeks and it’s only for those who were previously benefiting. In Laikipia West, we have 15 PWSDs, East 17 and Laikipia North 8, “Maina revealed.

He said that the beneficiaries will be required to have their care giver’s valid national identification card, national council for persons with disabilities registration card, birth certificate and passport size photograph.

The coordinator further emphasised that residents should not be misled that this is new targeting, noting that once the government starts fresh targeting they will be notified.

“It is unfortunate that there are people who will take advantage of the situation but let it be known to them we have specific locations and their geographical areas of those to be enlisted. We will get them wherever they are,” the county boss warned.

Maina said that those who may have died, relocated or untraceable will be recorded.

The retargeting exercise is being carried out in all the 47 counties countrywide aiming to reinstate a total of 12,464 beneficiaries.
