Some 10,705 academically promising students from humble backgrounds who sat the 2020 Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) Examinations have officially been commissioned to join wings to fly and Elimu Scholarship programs.

Speaking at the event that was held at Machakos Boys High School, Ruth Mutua CEC for Education, Skills training and Social welfare said the students should double efforts in their education for the betterment of their future.

Mutua said the beneficiaries should be committed to their studies and put all their efforts in succeeding as they plan to join high school in August. “Equity Group has put a seed in your hand, it’s up to you to grow it into a tree through discipline and commitment,” said CEC Mutua.

She commended Equity group and the other stakeholders for touching the lives of the beneficiaries and renewing the lives and hopes of the students.

On his part, Machakos Assistant County Commissioner George Kubai urged the students to remember where they came from as they start their four years in Secondary School.

Kubai, who is also a Member of the Local Community Scholarship Selection Board (CSSB), told the students to put their best foot forward because a lot of people have sacrificed to make sure they have joined high school.

The two Scholarship programs offer comprehensive scholarships which cover the students’ tuition, books, uniform, transport costs and pocket money for the four-year period they are in school.

During the tenure of their secondary school education, the students will also benefit from mentorship and leadership development.

The 2021 scholarships were awarded by the Local Community Scholarship Selection Board for the Wings to Fly and the Community Scholarship Advisory Board for Elimu scholarships.

The 321 Scholars selection in Machakos is done through a rigorous exercise which involves one on one panel interviews with the students and their parents followed by home verification visits.
