Over 300 boda boda operators in Nyakach Sub County will be trained to reduce road carnage and adhere to National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) policy.
According to area National Government Constituency Development Fund (NGCDF) chairman Joel Onono, money has been set aside from the pool for the training.
“We have set aside funds to be used to train selected boda boda operators to acquire licenses and work without police harassment,” he said.
Onono said many youth were operating motorcycles without riding licenses thus putting their lives and road users in danger.
He added that they received their fourth quarter funds recently and would strive to channel it towards development before the financial year is closed next week.
He said that last financial year, they trained over 600 operators and would in the next financial year increase the number to target many youth who depended on the sector.
“We need to train many youth who highly depend on this sector. This will improve their riding skills and source of income,” he said.
The chairman was speaking at St Alloys Secondary school in Pap Onditi over the weekend while offering cheques to successful applicants.
