A total of 30 students from Turkana County have received fully paid scholarships from KCB Foundation and Tullow Company to pursue secondary school education.
Speaking in Lodwar on Monday, KCB Lodwar branch manager Christine Lane said the beneficiaries received shs 53,554 each for the first year and subsequent disbursements would be paid as they progress through their four years.
The students also received shs 25,000 each that would be used to cater for their transport, shopping and pocket money.
“The scholarship will cater for full school fees, stationery and uniform for the students throughout their four years,” said Lane.
Additionally, the students will also be assigned a mentor from the Lodwar branch for their quarterly one on one mentorship sessions as they undertake their studies.
So far, 1,552 students have benefited from the KCB scholarships since 2007. Out of these number 117 are persons with disability.
She challenged the students to work harder to prove they deserved the scholarships.
“Your studies should be your priority as worries over school fees have now been taken over by KCB Foundation,” she told the students.
She urged the parents to develop a keen interest in both the academic and extra curricular life of the students as they develop into all round individuals.
Last week, eight bright and needy students from the county also benefited from Equity wings to Fly scholarships.
