Some 291 students in Maua Ward, Igembe South Sub County of Meru County will benefit from Sh3 million county bursary funds.
The money allocated is only targeting vulnerable students from very poor backgrounds within the ward.
Speaking yesterday while collecting the application forms from students and parents, the Maua ward administrator Murithi Bariu maintained that the funds are meant only for the most disadvantaged learners in the ward.
He said the funds will ensure that disadvantaged learners have an equal right to basic education.
The administrator further added that the Meru County Government is committed to ensuring that all students access education at all levels regardless of their background.
He said that he received over three thousand application forms out of which 291 applicants who are most disadvantaged will benefit.
The ward administrator expressed the governor’s commitment in supporting education for needy and vulnerable students terming it as the only way to liberate them through knowledge and skill acquisition.
“These are very important members of the public who are not only future leaders but also agents of transforming the society,” he noted.
He further added that the governor has issued a clarion call for girl child whose rate of school dropout is high in the area.
