A 28-year old woman has been arrested by police in Homa-Bay for allegedly stealing a 6-month baby in West Kochia Rangwe Sub-County in Homa-Bay County.
The suspect identified as Rose Atieno Aluoch was arrested for stealing a six months old child identified as Sharon Achieng who is the daughter to Christine Achieng on Friday last week. The baby was stolen when her mother had gone to watch sports with her baby at Ndiru Secondary School.
The suspect who was also present at the school watching sports had approached Christine and requested if they could have tea together at the nearest hotel. She later asked the mother to help her assist in carrying the baby.
Aluoch later lied to Christine that she was going to purchase airtime at a nearby shop leaving the mother at the hotel but apparently she disappeared with the baby to an unknown destination.
Confirming the incident Homa-Bay Sub-County Directorate of Criminal Investigation Joseph Tuksho said that the parents of the baby reported the matter at Homa-Bay police station on May 25 and investigations were immediately launched.
Tuksho added that the officers who acted on a tip off traced the woman and arrested her yesterday in possession of the baby in Rangwe Sub-County.
Tuksho said that the suspect has been taken to Homa-Bay police station awaiting to be arraigned in court and the baby handed back to the mother.
