250 PWDs in Mandera benefit from mobility kits

Over 250 individuals with disabilities residing in Mandera East can now find reason to rejoice, as the County Administration has provided an array of assistive mobility kits and vocational tools.

This initiative aims to empower them and promote their autonomy instead of totally relying on others for everything they need.

Among the recipients are individuals who have been confined to their beds for extended periods.

They have been furnished with wheelchairs, crutches, and hearing aids to enhance their physical mobility and sensory abilities.

Additionally, the beneficiaries have been equipped with tools relevant to various trades, such as sewing machines and welding equipment.

This comprehensive approach is intended to enable them to establish their independence within the community.

Sumeya Noor, the County Executive Committee member responsible for social and gender services, conveyed during the distribution event that these essential items would liberate the recipients from confinement within their homes due to a lack of suitable mobility aids.

She further revealed that plans are underway to establish a dedicated resource centre tailored to the needs of individuals with disabilities.

This centre will serve as a focal point for addressing the affairs of persons with disabilities, providing a platform for their concerns to be addressed and resolved.

Noor emphasised the significance of supporting these marginalised groups, noting that they possess unique talents that, when nurtured, can uplift them from the grip of poverty.

The County Administration’s commitment to their well-being is underscored by this initiative, which aims to transform their lives and integrate them more fully into society.
