Cheques worth Sh25 million issued to women and youth groups

The government has issued cheques worth Sh25 million to groups of women and youth in Changamwe constituency Mombasa County.
Public Service, Youth and Gender Affairs Chief Administrative Secretary (CAS) Rachel Shebesh issued the funds at Changamwe social hall to jubilant recipients Monday.
Shebesh issued Uwezo fund cheques worth Sh3.5 million , Women enterprise development fund cheques worth Sh13 million, Youth Enterprise Development Fund worth Sh2.4 million and National Government Affirmative Action Fund (NGAAF) worth Sh6 million..
Shebesh said the government was determined to empower the youth and women economically and socially.
She said the government was empowering women and youth through the distribution of the revolving funds to help them engage in economic activities.
The CAS who was accompanied by Mombasa County Women Representative Aisha Mohamed reaffirmed the government’s commitment to ensure that marginalized groups access opportunities that will enable them realize their full potential.
Shebesh supported the two-third gender rule to increase women representation in leadership noting that women still grapple with many hurdles to access leadership positions.
“We cannot continue to be under-represented and that is why the constitution envisages a 20 year period through the gender rule to give us greater representation,” she said.
The Mombasa Women Rep said she will step up the provision of sanitary pads to girls in public primary and secondary schools to help raise their numbers in learning institutions.
Mohamed has promised to ensure transparency in the allocation of the NGAAF bursaries to needy learners.
