200 elderly men undergo free urological surgeries in Kitui

About 200 elderly men in Kitui suffering from urinary blockages have benefited from free urological surgeries offered by the Kenya Association of Urological Surgeons (KAUS).

The Association has deployed 80 surgeons to Kitui County Referral, Jordan, Mutomo Mission and Mwingi hospitals to undertake the operations.

Lead Surgeon Dr. Joshua Matu said Thursday that the team targets to provide free treatment urological patients who cannot afford the procedure which normally costs Sh300,000.

“KAUS is aware that most affected persons are unable to secure treatment due to poverty. That’s why we undertake the exercise annually as part of our Corporate Social Responsibility initiative,” noted Dr. Matu.

One of the beneficiaries, 77-year-old John Mwinzi said he developed urinary blockage two years ago and had undergone untold suffering.

“Passing urine has been my worst nightmare, but now that’s a thing of the past, thanks to the urological surgery I underwent two days ago at Jordan Hospital,” he told reporters.
