Kisii county secondary schools term 1 county championship games kicked off amidst heavy rains at Tendere high school yesterday.
The games which were earlier scheduled at Sameta High School were moved to Tendere due to muddy playing ground occasioned about by the onset of the long rains.
Urging fans to bear with the inconvenience, County Education Director, Mr. Nimrod Kimathi called upon learners to embrace co-curricular activities as an important area of learning process.
Basketball ball games players and fans from different schools had already arrived at Sameta high school only to find the venue had been changed.
However, handball games took place as they were earlier planned at Tendere high with athletics taking place at Sameta stadium.
Coaches from various teams protested over the poor pitches that had been selected accusing the committee of sports of underrating the games.
They lamented over what they termed as poor officiating from a number of referees who in many occasions allegedly made wrong decisions.
In the preliminary results, Kereri Hockey Girls team garnered 6 points against Amaiko’s 0 point.
Nyabururu was beaten 0-2 point by Sengera girls, while Cardinal Otunga Boys flattened Riokindo Boys 4-1.
In Rugby 15s Sameta lost to Cardinal Otunga Mosocho by 4-6, while Nyabigena had 14 against Amaiga 0 point. Itierio beat Nyamache by 17-5.
In rugby 7s, Moi Gesusu went draw by 7-7 with Nyasore.
