A sombre mood yesterday morning engulfed Kanyaluo ward in Rachuonyo constituency after a 19 year old boy hanged himself at his grandmother’s house.
Rodgers Otieno who was a form one student at Omboga Secondary School in Kanyaluo was found dead by his sister Monday morning.
According to the Assistant Chief of Kamenya North Risper Akinyi, the boy had complained of stomach ache and requested to be served rice.
“The grandmother left the house to buy rice from the nearby Mboga market and left him with his sister who also later left to fetch water. When the two came back they found the boy had hanged himself,” the Chief said.
The Chief noted that there was no suicide note left behind by the boy neither did he show any suicidal signs earlier.
She regretted that there had been frequent cases of suicide amongst youths in the area urging parents and guardians to counsel their children to ensure they are mentally fine.
“Parents should create time to talk and be close to their children to be able to understand them and ensure they are fine mentally to avoid such cases,” said the Assistant Chief.
She further advised the youths to share the problems that they have with their parents or teachers or close friends to be able to get the necessary help.
“I urge young people to share their problems with their parents or guardians or even teachers and if they cannot open up to them they should at least talk to their close friends to get the necessary advice” she said.
