17-year old boy killed in an inferno

Police in Rachuonyo have launched investigations into an incident in which a 17-year-old boy died in a house fire.

Noah Ouma died when their house caught fire at Nyireo Village, Kakelo Location in Rachuonyo East Sub-county.

Area Chief Seth Ogal said the boy was alone in the house during the incident.

Ogal said the boy was paralyzed and could not move from where he lay.

“The boy was alone when the fire broke out. He could not move out due to a chronic disease, which impeded his mobility. He was burnt to death,” he said.

The Chief said the boy’s father who rushed to the scene could rescue the boy nor salvage anything because the inferno was overwhelming.

He said the old man raised an alarm, but residents were unable to rescue anything due to the intensity of the fire.

Ogal said they had not established the cause of the fire. He said the family reported that there was nothing that could cause the fire in the house.

“The house had no electricity and there was neither a jiko nor gas cooker in the house. The kitchen was detached and had no fire at that time,” he added.

The administrator said he had liaised with police who are investigating the incident.

The body of the deceased was moved to Rachuonyo South Sub-County Hospital.
