Over 1500 residents of Shinyalu constituency turned up for a two-day medical camp held at Ileho secondary school.
The Ministry of Health supported the event that brought together medics from across the country, the Kenya Medical Association (KMA), the Lions Hospital, and Pharmacists from the Pharmaceutical Society of Kenya (PSK).
Senior government officers from Western region also participated in supporting the event that was organized by George Muruli who works in the Ministry of Interior and Coordination of National Government.
Others present were the National Hospital Insurance Fund (NHIF), The Lions Hospital, Diamond Trust Bank (DTB) and The Kenya Red Cross Society (KRS).
The Lead Doctor in the Medical Camp Dr. Hezron Omollo asked residents to register with the National Hospital Insurance Fund (NHIF) so that they could access medication without straining.
“It may save you one day when you really need that care. Many families in Kenya are a single disease away from poverty but if we register with NHIF,” He noted.
NHIF Regional Manager for Western and Nyanza region Valentine Morogo said all Kenyans are covered through the National Scheme cover.
She noted that a self-employed person including a mama mboga, a farmer or any other is only required to pay Sh500 per month which will cover the contributor, their spouse and all the children.
“With the contribution which translates to Sh6000 per year, the contributor will access out-patient and inpatient services beginning from surgeries, rehabilitation for those addicted to drugs among others,” she noted.
