The upcoming 120-bed capacity Hospital Plaza at the Vihiga County Referral Hospital, is to be completed in four months’ time, with over 80 percent works so far done.
The Hospital Medical Superintendent, Dr. Victor Zimbulu, says its completion would boost the accessibility of health services, to the residents and the people of the larger western region.
Speaking while on an inspection tour in the company of the area Governor Dr. Wilber Ottichilo and the County Health Management Committee (CHMC), Dr. Zimbulu said they are determined to ensure the referral hospital expands its capacity to meet the demand for the services.
The medic at the same time said a 120-capacity freezers funeral home is 99 percent complete and would soon be commissioned.
The state-of-the-art morgue has 24 Very Important Persons (VIPs) freezers and is the largest of its kind in the former western province.
He explained that the facility contains among others a pathology room, a body viewing area and a chapel where requiem mass service can be conducted before the bodies are ferried home.
The County has 4 Sub County hospitals, 18 health centers, 23 dispensaries and a number of private and mission hospitals and clinics.
