107 Tharaka Nithi students awarded scholarships

Some 107 students who excelled in 2020 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Examination (KCSE) in Tharaka Nithi County have benefitted from Equity’s bank ‘Wings to Fly’ and Elimu Scholarship Programme.

Speaking during the commissioning event at Mater Dei Primary School, Equity Bank Director of Elimu Scholarship Programme, Erick Naivasha said that 107 students from needy backgrounds, who passed their KCSE were awarded comprehensive scholarships.

“We have awarded the students with comprehensive scholarships programs that include tuition and boarding fees, transport, books, shopping hampers and pocket money,” he said.

The director added that orphans, students with single parents and those suffering from chronic diseases were given the first priority.

He further urged other organizations to chip in as more students countrywide were in dire need of educational support.

At the same time, Naivasha said Equity bank targets to plant 35 million tree seedlings countrywide to conserve the environment, noting they have already planted 7million.

The director disclosed that 20 million tree seedlings will be planted in schools to educate and inculcate students to start environmental conversation at an early age.

He advised that every school should practice ‘adopt-a-tree’ policy to ensure each student has a tree they are nurturing.

Naivasha revealed that in partnership with government organizations and educational institutions they are eradicating the use of trees as charcoal and encouraging use of clean energy in schools and households to reduce Carbon Dioxide (CO2) greenhouse emissions.
