10,000 people to attend Arati’s swearing-in ceremony

Gusii Stadium in Kisii town with a sitting capacity of 10,000 has been selected as the venue for the swearing-in ceremony for the second Governor of Kisii, Simba Arati, and his Deputy, Dr. Robert Monda.

Speaking at a press briefing, Kisii County Secretary and Chairperson of the Assumption of Office of the County Governor Committee, Patrick Lumumba said they are expecting the residents to fill the stadium Thursday to witness the historic handing over of power to the Governor-Elect.

“We hereby invite members of the public to attend the event in large numbers and witness the ceremony which will kick off at 10 am and this time is very strict as it is prescribed in law. Consequently, the public is hereby requested to be seated at the stadium by 9 am,” Lumumba noted.

The exercise follows a Kenya Gazette Notice No. 9884 dated 17th August 2022 which notified the general public of the swearing-in ceremony as prescribed in Article 180 (1) of the Constitution of Kenya, 2010, sections 5, 6, 11 (1), 12 (1) and 14 of the Assumption of the Office of the County Governor, Act, 2019.

Lumumba noted the outgoing Governor, James Ongwae will be in attendance, adding that elaborate security measures have been put in place to ensure the safety of all during the event.

Further, the County Secretary thanked residents for remaining patient as they plan for the big day and urged those outside the county to make travel arrangements to be in Kisii for the ceremony.

Arati, the immediate former Dagoretti North MP, succeeds Governor Ongwae who has served the county for two terms.
