“In a bid to significantly reduce the out-of-pocket payment for health, my administration is today rolling out Bomet-Universal-Coverage NHIF support programme that will benefit 8,667 families in the county,” explained Barchok.

He added that in the financial year 2021/2022, his administration is expected to expand the number of beneficiaries under the UHC to 10,000.

“In this financial year, we will expand the number to cover up 10,000 needy families in our society which means around 70,000 individuals from these families will benefit directly from the programme,” added the governor.

Statistics also indicated that the national government is offering support to 19,180 households from the county.

The total number of beneficiaries under the Universal Health Cover stands at 29,180 families out of 93,000 needy homesteads marked for the programme.

The selection process of beneficiaries was rigorous, the panel consisted committee with representation from the county assembly, the county commissioner’s office, youth, women and persons with disabilities faith-based organizations and the National Hospital Insurance Fund (NHIF).

The panel was tasked with foreseeing the registration of eligible needy families and also ensuring they meet NHIF requirements.

Members in the scheme will enjoy a wide array of services including specialized radiologic, renal, laboratory, surgical, gynecologic and obstetric services among others.

Dr. Barchok also revealed that his administration will commence the construction of the mother and child wellness centre this financial year.

The governor divulged the facility is aimed at decongesting the main referral hospital at Longisa and improve service delivery in the entire healthcare system.
