100 households set to benefit from 10-acre irrigation farm

A total of 100 households in the Kakwanyang area, Township Ward in Turkana Central Sub-County are set to benefit from a 10-acre irrigation farm.

The County Government has handed over the micro-irrigation project to the community who will engage in horticulture farming.

Speaking during the handover, Agriculture and Land Reclamation Chief Officer Janerose Tioko stated that the County Government would ensure the sustainability of the project through ongoing support for farmers.

“The County Government will issue a variety of certified seeds to farmers to enhance crop production,” she said.

She added that the Department of Agriculture and Land Reclamation would deploy extension officers to train farmers on good agronomic practices for increased efficiency.

“The Department will also distribute farm tools and equipment to farmers. I urge the farmers to utilize these resources to enhance food security,” she said.

The project is among the key pillars of the County Government’s commitment to ensuring food security as per the Governor’s Nine-Point Agenda.

The Contract Implementation Team (CIT) that accompanied the CCO included Ekeno Charles (Resident Engineer), Robert Lotaruk (Chief Procurement Officer), Pius Ekidor (Accountant), and Michael Lokala (Land Reclamation Officer).
