The government is targeting to register 1.8 million households with Taifa Care in Kakamega County.
Currently, the government has managed to register 271 000 households as the exercise is still ongoing.
Speaking in Malava on Friday, the Cabinet Secretary Ministry for Health Dr. Deborah Barasa urged the National Government Administration Officers (NGAO) to work with the Community Health Promoters (CHPs) in scaling up the registration of the households with Taifa Care.
“If we sit together, if we support each other as CHPs and NGAO, then we would give the community the right message. We can share our experiences about SHA, we can share the challenges and grievances that can come up to our level but also the good practices on how our mothers have delivered, how our children are being seen in SHA so that we don’t lose life and lose such a wonderful program,” she noted.
The CS said, that with support from the President and political goodwill, availability of resources and the availability of necessary laws, the government is committed to ensuring better health outcomes in Kenya.
“Consultation, coordination and collaboration brings synergy and success in the implementation of Taifa care and so we are working together as a Ministry to ensure there is 100 percent health insurance coverage and there is 100 percent access to essential medicine and services,” she added.
Dr. Barasa at the same time urged health facilities to contract and offer services through SHA so that they can benefit from funding through the Facility Improvement Fund (FIF) that would in turn improve those facilities.
“To our development partners, please support us to be able to achieve this noble course,” she added.
Kakamega Deputy Governor, Ayub Savula, noted that the county government is supporting the national government in mobilizing households to register with Taifa Care.
